The Concept of Foodservice

Technically, the concept of food service is a truly broad one but most often it is thought of in a narrower margin. Technically, there are two categories in the food industry. The first is Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) and that is anything that is in a package and the second category is food service. And food-service  is often broken down into 5 categories.

1)      Fine Dining- Independent single unit restaurants

2)      Family Dining- often like Chevy’s or Chili’s or Red Lobster

3)      Institutional Dining (often referred to as ‘foodservice’)

4)      Quick service dining

5)      Fast Food

So when it comes to the concept of food service there is a wide range to play with. The most important part in any sector of the food service industry is to have a cohesive concept which allows consumers to digest and feel comfortable with in approaching. The single worst mistake that can be made in working with a food service concept is to confuse the customer.
